Clark Fork Whitewater Rafting Trips

The largest River by volume in Montana is the Clark Fork River. This river is known to many as the most exciting of the three rivers passing near Missoula. For those looking for some of the best outdoor activities in the region, the Clark Fork River provides just that. It hosts many kayakers, SUPers, river boarders, and the best whitewater rafting in Missoula during the summer. Wiley’s whitewater river rafting tours on the Clark Fork River begin only 40 minutes from Missoula, Mt.

Full Day Clark Fork Whitewater

This option is an all-day excursion with plenty of whitewater for the adventure seeker! We will meet at Wiley headquarters, where you will leave your vehicle, meet your guide and receive a safety briefing. Once on the river, your guide will navigate you through 4-6 notable class III-IV rapids with many small rapids in between. With all this excitement, there is still the opportunity to take in the breathtaking geography and wildlife Western Montana has to offer. This river has great swimming holes, rock jumping, and even a “hot spring” towards the end of the trip- not to be confused with Quinn’s hot springs or any hot spring for that matter. Your trip includes an all-you-can-eat buffet-style lunch because, yes, rafting is a workout. Water is provided at lunch, while water & adult beverages are provided at the end of the trip.

About Clark Fork Trips

Put-in Site

We meet at Wiley headquarters in Superior, Montana, and shuttle you about 20 mins to our put-in spot at Cyr bridge. There are Porta Johns available at camp if you need to use them before your shuttle ride.

Class III Rapids

*Cliffside I -This is the first notable whitewater on our route. We will traverse quickly through rocks & rapids while maneuvering tight alongside the rock wall of the river gorge.
*Cliffside II – This thrilling and technical rapid will get your whitewater blood pumping while still asking when the next rapid is.
*Triple Bridges – The most poignant named rapid on the Clark Fork River next to Cliffside I&II, also a frequent kayak surfing wave that always provides a refreshing raft soaking splash.

Alberton Gorge

The Clark Fork River is a tributary consisting of 340 miles of primarily calm waters. The section of the river we raft is known as the Alberton Gorge. These 13 miles are the most whitewater-filled in Western Montana. This area of Montana also has some of the best wildlife in the Pacific Northwest. We float you through the heart of the river gorge. You never know what we’ll run into, but it’s bound to be exciting.

Class IV Rapids

Depending on the water levels, the Clark Fork River has multiple Class IV rapids:

*Tumbleweed – This rapid brings the best of large volume whitewater while still allowing for a family-friendly adventure.

*Fang – This rapid is similar to tumbleweed, as it is equally thrilling. Fang is sure to make you feel like a kid on a rollercoaster with its quick drop right into a curling wave.

This exhilarating whitewater will quickly remove any doubt you may have had about the Clark Fork River being the best rafting near the Missoula, Coeur d’Alene, or Spokane area.

Sandy Beach

This is just as it sounds -a sandy beach, where we pull off the river and set up lunch for our full-day trip. The ideal time to enjoy the water OUT of the raft! This stop is also a great place we like to set up our version of water slides (Montana style) for bonus fun & entertainment!

Camping/ Lodging

For camping near Superior, Montana we recommend the Trout Creek Campground. For lodging we recommend Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort or Lozeau Lodge.
